The Mercedes GLS and Range Rover have gained a new competitor. The BMW X7, the largest SUV in the company's history with the most prominent... nostrils at the front, which has just been officially unveiled.
BMW X7 Description
It is true that official information and photos of the BMW X7 have only just surfaced online, but we have already had the opportunity to see the model in person. During the pre-premiere show, where we were not allowed to take photos, it was stated that:
- BMW X7 is enormous;
- the front end is designed to accommodate a large number of people, while there is ample space in the back;
- sales forecasts amount to hundreds of units per year;
So many honest impressions or behind-the-scenes conversations. But what is officially known about the X7?
First of all, you may not be able to appreciate the size of the car in real time, but it is truly enormous. With a length of 5151 cm, it surpasses the likes of the Audi Q7, Mercedes GLS, and Range Rover in the long version.
All equipped, at least, with 20-inch (optional up to 22-inch) wheels and gigantic nostrils on the front grille. BMW has never had such a large SUV before. Nor such large nostrils. In the entire history of the company. Exaggeration? Judge for yourself.

The X7 comes with three rows of seats as standard. Even then, the luggage compartment looked quite decent — it amounts to 326 liters. When carrying five people, 750 liters are available. You can also opt for a six-seater variant. In this case, the second row features two «captain» seats and very comfortable chairs.
The Interior of the BMW X7 like in the 8 Series
That is — the same layout and with a large 12.3-inch central display. Another new feature is the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant system, which will provide voice support for car functions — just say «Hey, BMW».
Technical Specifications
Under the hood — six cylinders in the European specification, and even with four turbochargers.
The range of engines available on our continent is limited to three-liter six-cylinder engines. The gasoline (40i) — which is likely to be more popular than similar units in the X5 and X6 — currently has 340 hp and reaches 100 km/h in 6.1 s.
The less powerful diesel (30d) has 265 hp and reaches 100 km/h in 7 s. The stronger one (M50d) features four turbochargers with 400 hp and reaches a hundred in 5.4 seconds.
In some markets (but not ours), a V8 4.4 gasoline engine with 462 hp will also be available. Its performance ranges from 5.4 s to 100 km/h and a top speed of 250 km/h. Plug-in hybrids? They will probably appear later.
Additionally: Luxury and More Luxury
Being the flagship SUV in the brand's lineup (bearing the number 7 in the name, which is quite an obligation), the X7 should be equipped with all the latest technological advancements. Hence the adaptive suspension capable of raising the car by a whole 80 mm.
If someone prefers to test the handling of the X7 in off-road conditions, they will appreciate the Off-Road package (unavailable for the M50d engine). With it, you can choose from modes like xSand, xGravel, xRocks, and xSnow — for x-sand, x-gravel, x-rocks, and x-snow.
Additionally, there is a high-quality Bowers & Wilkins audio system, laser projectors, a standard panoramic roof, enhanced interior lighting, and an extensive Head-Up display with an exceptionally large screen area. And many driver assistance systems.
Will the BMW X7 be successful? Certainly. Such a model has been missing from this brand so far. Are those nostrils too big? Without a doubt.
