Review of the BMW 2 Series

The BMW 2 Series is available in three variants: coupes, convertibles, and minivans. The BMW 2 Series coupes are compact two-door versions that replaced the E82. These models were officially presented at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in 2014.

The «Two Series» coupes have a mature appearance.

Features:

  1. Equipped with new headlamps.
  2. New bumpers.
  3. Larger air intakes.
  4. G-shaped rear lights.
  5. The shoulder lines frame the entire silhouette and end at the trunk lid spoiler.
  6. With xenon look and LED eyebrows, the cars exude an aggressive sporty vibe.
  7. Aggressiveness is also seen in the elongated hoods and raised rear ends of the cars (for rear-wheel drive models).

Specifications

  • The length of the cars has increased by 7.2 cm to 4.432 meters.
  • The width has increased by 2.6 cm to 1.774 meters.
  • The front and rear track width has been expanded by 4.¼.3 cm to 1.521/1.556 meters.
  • The wheelbase, at 2.690 meters, has also increased by 3 cm.
  • The height of the cars has decreased by 5 mm to 1.418 meters.
  • The interiors have become more spacious.
  • The trunk now holds 390 liters, compared to 370 liters before. The backrests can be folded. Three-section backrests are available as an option.

F22

Once serial production began, the BMW 2 F22 coupe was introduced with the following modifications:

  • 220i: 2.0-liter, four-cylinder Twin Power Turbo engines producing 184 horsepower and 270 Nm of torque. Acceleration of 7.0/100 km. Top speed of 235 km/h. Fuel consumption in mixed cycles with 6-speed manual transmissions is 6.1 l/100 km. With 8-speed automatic transmissions, it is 5.7 l/100 km. CO2 emissions are 142/134 g/km.
  • M235i: The most powerful, three-liter, inline, six-cylinder Twin Power Turbo engines delivering 326 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. Acceleration of 5/4.8 seconds (with 8-speed automatic transmissions). Top speed of 250 km/h. Fuel consumption of 8.1/7.6 l/100 km. CO2 emissions of 189/176 g/km.
  • 220d: Two-liter diesel engines with 184 hp and 380 Nm of torque. Acceleration of 7.2 seconds (7.1 seconds with automatic transmissions). Top speed of 230 km/h. Fuel consumption is 4.5 l with manual transmissions and 4.2 l/100 km with 8-speed automatic transmissions. CO2 emissions of 125/117 g/km.
  • In March, two more diesel versions were introduced: 218d and 225d.
  • 225d: Two-liter Twin Power engines producing 218 hp and 450 Nm of torque. Acceleration of 6.3 seconds/100 km. Top speed of 242 km/h. Fuel consumption of 4.7 l/100 km. CO2 emissions of 124 g/km.
  • 218d: Rear-wheel-drive two-door coupes with two-liter engines, four valves, and 143 hp. Acceleration of 8.9 seconds. Top speed of 213 km/h. Fuel consumption with 8-speed automatic transmissions: 5.1/3.7/4.2 (city, highway, mixed cycles). With 6-speed manual transmissions: 5.3/3.8/4.3. Torque of 320 Nm. Equipped with turbocharged compressors and direct injections.
  • By summer, all-wheel-drive 228i and M235i models were added.
  • For Russian customers, only 220i, M235i, and 220d models were offered.
  • In June 2016, the addition of new 230i and M240i models marked the lineup expansion.

F23

The official presentation of the BMW 2 F23 convertibles took place at the Paris Motor Show in 2014, from October 4 to 19. These cars also gained recognition at the Los Angeles Auto Show, held from October 21 to 30.

The four-seat compact variants with folding roofs have inherited many traits from the successful and powerful cars of the 1 Series E88.

The soft roofs open/close using electric drives when the cars reach speeds of 50 km/h within 20 seconds. The previous models took 22 seconds to open and operated at a speed of 40 km/h.

  • 218i: 1.5-liter engine, 136 hp, 220 Nm. Acceleration in 9.4 seconds. Top speed of 207 km/h. Fuel consumption in city/highway/mixed cycles: For manual transmission — 6.9/4.7/5.5 l per 100 km. For automatic transmission — 6.5/4.6/5.3 per 100 km.
  • 220d: 2.0-liter engine, 190 hp, 400 Nm. Consumption of 7.5 l/100 km. Top speed of 225 km/h. Fuel consumption of 5.5/3.8/4.4 l per 100 km and 4.7/3.7/4.1 l per 100 km, respectively.
  • 220i: 2.0-liter engine, 184 hp, 270 Nm. Consumption of 7.5 l/100 km. Top speed of 231 km/h. Fuel consumption of 8.9/5.1/6.5 l per 100 km and 8.3/5.0/6.2 l per 100 km.
  • 228i: 2.0-liter engine, 245 hp, 350 Nm. Top speed of 250 km/h. Acceleration in 6.1 seconds. Consumption of 6.8/6.6 l per 100 km in mixed cycles.
  • 235i: 3.0-liter engine, 326 hp, 450 Nm. Top speed of 250 km/h. Acceleration in 5.2 seconds. Consumption of 8.5/7.9 l per 100 km in mixed cycles.

These engines are paired with 6-speed manual transmissions and 8-speed automatic transmissions.

F45

The new BMW 2 Series minivans were unveiled in 2014. They quickly gained popularity for their comfort, style, elegance, functionality, and dynamism. Built on the front-wheel-drive UKL1 platform.

Optional all-wheel-drive BMW 2 F45 models are available. The design features are related to the Concept Active Tourer and MINI Countryman.

  • 214d: 1.5 liters, 95 hp.
  • 216d: 1.5 liters, 116 hp.
  • 218d: 2.0 liters, 150 hp.
  • 218i: 1.5 liters, 136 hp.

  • 220d xDrive: 2.0 liters, 190 hp.
  • 220i: 2.0 liters, 192 hp.
  • 225i: 2.0 liters, 231 hp.
  • 225i xDrive: 2.0 liters, 231 hp.

F46

Seven-seater front-wheel-drive minivans. They were presented in 2015 at the Geneva Motor Show. The cars are produced with five engine variants.

The BMW 2 F46 models come with two gasoline and three diesel engines:

  • 216d: Left-hand drive, 1.5 liters, 136 hp, acceleration in 11.1 seconds, 270 Nm, top speed of 192 km/h. Fuel consumption with 6-speed manual/8-speed automatic transmissions: 4.2/4.3 l per 100 km. Direct injections.
  • 218d: 2.0 liters, 150 hp, 330 Nm. Acceleration in 9.3 seconds. Fuel consumption with 6-speed manual/8-speed automatic transmissions: 4.5/4.5 l per 100 km. Top speed of 205 km/h.
  • 218i: 1.5 liters, 136 hp, 220 Nm, acceleration in 9.5 seconds. Fuel consumption with 6-speed manual/6-speed automatic transmissions: 5.5/5.5 l per 100 km. Direct injector injections.
  • 220d xDrive: 2.0 liters, 190 hp. Direct injections. Acceleration in 7.6 seconds. Top speed of 218 km/h. 8-speed automatic transmission with fuel consumption in city/highway/mixed cycles: 5.7/4.7/5.1 l per 100 km. Torque of 400 Nm.
  • 220i: 2.0 liters, 192 hp, torque of 280 Nm. Acceleration in 7.7 seconds. Fuel consumption in the city/highway/mixed cycles with 6-speed manual transmissions: 8.1/5.4/6.4 l and with 8-speed automatic transmissions: 7.5/5.3/6.1 l per 100 km. Turbocharged compressors.
