Is the BMW 8 Series Convertible better than the coupe?

Following the leak, teasers, and spy photos, BMW has finally unveiled the open version of the new 8 Series. The luxurious BMW 8 Series convertible makes a great impression, just like its closed version, and boasts the same advantages.

The 8 Series is one of BMW's most beautiful models. Until now, we only knew of the coupe variant. Today, an equally, if not more, beautiful convertible joins it. Despite its large dimensions, the body looks proportionate. Both with the roof and without.

The roof itself is not rigid in accordance with modern fashion. BMW has opted for a classic material. And it's the right choice because such a roof better suits the character of the car. Additionally, it saves a few kilograms. Importantly, the roof can be folded and unfolded while driving at speeds of up to 50 km/h. The whole process takes just 15 seconds.

In terms of equipment and technical solutions, the convertible version is actually an exact copy of what we know about the coupe. For now, the role of the main engine will be played by a 4.4-liter V8 with twin turbocharging, producing 530 hp and 748 Nm of torque.

Paired with the engine is a full-time all-wheel-drive matched to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The performance is impressive. The sprint to a hundred takes 3.8 seconds.

You can also opt for a less powerful variant. The 840D all-wheel-drive diesel Inline-six delivers 320 hp and 680 Nm of torque.

Here, too, there is all-wheel drive and an automatic transmission.

The equipment, as befits a luxurious convertible, is truly rich. In the top range, M850i customers can expect, among other things, adaptive laser lighting, 20-inch wheels, or Harman Kardon audio systems. As an option, you can choose an even better Bowers & Wilkins sound system, seat-integrated ventilation, and glass finishing components.

The luxurious BMW 8 Series convertible will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The USA is expected to be the main market for this model. In local stores, it will cost $121,400.
