General Model Information
The BMW X3 crossover debuted in 2003. It is the first representative of the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV). It is also a member of the premium segment. Technologically, the model is akin to BMW X5.
Contrariwise, the type of floor plate links it to the X series. The BMW X3 prototype was designed by Chris Bangle in 2002. The car received the award for the best SUV at the Canadian Car of the Year competition in 2005.
The X3's competitors include the Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, and Mercedes GLK.
Generations of BMW X3
The first generation BMW X3 E83 first appeared at the Frankfurt Motor Show in the second half of 2003. In 2006, the model underwent a facelift, and in 2010, it was succeeded by the second generation.
The upgrade involved the installation of diesel particulate filters on diesel engines. Conversely, among the engines, three-liter diesel and turbochargers appeared. The E83 entered the European, Thai, Russian, Egyptian, and American markets. It was manufactured at the Magna Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik AG plant in Graz, Austria.
Based on the BMW X3 E83, a rally version called the X3 Cross Country was created, which first appeared at the Dakar Rally in 2006.
The second-generation BMW X3 is designated by the symbol F25. It hit the market in 2010. The car was equipped with a 190-horsepower engine. In 2014, turn signal indicators were added to the front mirrors, and the door lock buttons were placed on the front door handles. Compared to the first generation, BMW X3 F25 has a less streamlined shape.
Drive Units
The model's maximum power can range from 143 to 360 horsepower, meaning the car can reach a top speed of up to 250 km/h.
The SUV has 4–6 cylinders. The car can run on diesel or gasoline.
The X3 can have all-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, or permanent all-wheel drive.
Reviews of BMW X3
The BMW X3 is a large, comfortable, elegant 5-door car with a spacious trunk (from 1560 to 1600 liters). Both salon models and secondary market models are popular among buyers, although its main drawback is its price and overall maintenance costs. The model's strongest parts are the engine, chassis, and transmission.
