Useful
The first thing that comes to mind when mentioning the Bavarian brand BMW is the high build quality and long service life of the cars. But even such a reliable manufacturer has its drawbacks. For example, from the entire range of power units, BMW owners highlight 1.6 liter engines producing up to 100 horsepower.
According to them, such an internal combustion engine is not powerful enough. And if you squeeze “all the juices” out of it, then its resource will decrease by half from what the manufacturers declared (500 thousand km).
The transmission on BMW models does not have such errors. The only weak point of the Bavarian gearboxes is the backstage and tailstock seals. Of all the parts of the manual and automatic transmissions, they are subject to the greatest wear and tear, and most often do not even last 80 thousand km (with a timely change of oil in the transmission, the specified resource increases by another 10-15 thousand km).
BMW Operating Rules
Despite their belonging to the sports family, BMW cars do not like a spirited driving style. From a sharp start (including slipping), the clutch of Bavarian cars quickly wears out, reducing the factory service life to 80 thousand km (instead of 140 thousand, declared by the manufacturer).
The suspension on German-made cars is the most reliable unit. It consists of many separate mechanisms aimed at stabilizing the directional stability of the car and damping any vibrations received by the wheels.
But when using such a suspension on a poor asphalt surface, the first breakdown will not take long to come. And most often in the suspension, ball joints and shock absorbers suffer. Therefore, they need to be given more attention.
In case of wear of any part, do not try to save money by buying Chinese analogues. All of them are not of the proper quality. It is best to buy only original BMW parts from the manufacturer. The maximum where you can save is to buy an original used part.
To extend the service life of a BMW, it is necessary to conduct regular diagnostics, with the replacement of consumables and technical fluids:
- Antifreeze;
- Engine and gearbox oil;
- Brake fluid;
- Transmission fluid;
- Block and gearbox gaskets;
- Ball joints;
- Crank links;
- Steering knuckles.
It is advisable to change the listed parts in advance (after 40-50 thousand km of run), since their malfunction during the operation of the car can lead to an accident. And for greater safety, do not allow aggressive behavior behind the wheel (sharp starts, braking, swerving, etc.). The Bavarian suspension is not very resistant to such a driving style.
