Description of the BMW 6-Series e24

The sixth generation, specifically the BMW 6-Series e24, began production in 1976 and continued until 1990. This brand, while not considered progressive, had a cutting-edge style at that time. Evaluating such a vehicle in our time seems pointless, but it may be acquired for automotive tuning purposes.

Exterior of BMW 6-Series e24

This model was only available in a coupe body style, resembling the e34 and executed in a similar fashion. The front end featured an elongated hood with narrow relief in the center, leading to a slim iconic kidney grille.

At the front, four convex halogen headlights, considered a distinctive feature, added a cool touch. Turn signals were visible along the edges. The front design had a unique look, with angular features rather than being flat. A slightly understated bumper was complemented by chrome lines at the bottom and molding at the top.

The side profile lacked bulging arches but had a subtle curvature. A molding in the center was accented by a slim shiny line. Additionally, a dark line for style ran along the top, and the aluminum material used for the mirrors added a great touch.

The rear design was simple, featuring rectangular lights accented with shiny lines at the top and bottom. The trunk lid was not sharp but included a small dark spoiler for aerodynamics, which was both effective and visually appealing. Similarly, the rear bumper had a black molding and chrome lines.

Features

The BMW 6 series e24 had a wide range of powertrains to choose from, allowing consumers to find the one that suited them best. The lineup included nine carbureted and powerful engines, details of which can be easily viewed in the table above.

The model featured only rear-wheel drive with no other options. Transmission choices included a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. The chassis boasted an independent spring suspension, considered a benchmark for handling and comfort at that time, which, while not perfect by today's standards, was of high quality. The braking system was robust, with disc brakes performing excellently.

In our modern era, such engines no longer impress, but enthusiasts still desire these vehicles and appreciate the engines. Unfortunately, their reliability was not impeccable, and currently, many of these vehicles are in poor condition.

The interior quality, while not entirely up to modern standards, was considered luxurious for the 1970s. Plastic was used for the dashboard and other trim elements, but leather was present on the seats and fabric on the doors, which was satisfactory.

At the front, there were sporty seats, some with leather upholstery while cheaper versions had fabric covering. The rear seats were sufficiently spacious for two people, with an armrest in the center.

Behind the four-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, the main instrument panel housed analog gauges. Various indicator lights were present to signal specific issues.

At the top of the dashboard were air vents. Additionally, on the main console, there were heater controls — three simple knobs with selectors to control air for the left and right passengers.

To the left was the cigarette lighter, in the center was the stock radio unit, which is hard to come by nowadays, and on the right side was the hazard light button for the BMW 6 e24. Below, an additional ambiance reflector was present.

The center console featured a small recess where items like keys could be placed. Following it, on the left side was the gear shift lever, and on the right side were the power window buttons. Finally, the handbrake lever was observed.

Cost of BMW 6 e24

Similar models are available on the secondary market, but they are scarce and demand over 1,000,000 rubles. This is because the brand has become unique and collectible, requiring a significant financial investment.
