Review of the BMW X4 G02

The BMW X4 G02 was first seen in an online presentation in the winter of 2018. The model made its debut a month later at the Geneva Motor Show, and sales began in the summer of that year.

As a result, the crossovers have become more maneuverable by shifting the center of gravity and the weight distribution ratio to 50/50. SUVs have increased in size, power parameters, and dynamism. This has been well received by drivers.

Competition remains fierce. Its representatives include the Audi Q5, Infiniti QX50, Mercedes GLA Coupe, and Land Rover Discovery Sport. The production of these vehicles takes place in Spartanburg, USA.

Exteriors

The BMW X4 G02 crossovers boast:

BMW X4 G02 Crossovers — Medium-Sized Models

Compared to the previous generation F26, the vehicles have increased in size due to being built on the CLAR modular platform.

• Length – 475.2 cm.
• Width – 191.8 cm.
• Height – 162.1 cm.
• Wheelbase – 286.4 cm, instead of 281 cm.
• Ground clearance – 20.4 cm, enabling easy navigation through light off-road conditions.

Aerodynamic resistance reduced to 0.3 from 0.33 thanks to the updated vehicle design and the introduction of active louvers in the radiator grilles.

The curb weights have decreased as Efficient Lightweight constructions have become lighter. Now, depending on the configurations, the weights vary from 1720 kg to 1895 kg.

The performance-oriented variants M40i, M40d, with 20-inch wheels come in standard configurations. For an additional cost, 21-inch wheels can be obtained as an option. Basic packages include installation of alloy wheels with 18-inch dimensions.

Lighting

• The iDrive multimedia systems feature touch screens with diagonals of 6.5 inches in standard configurations and 10.25 inches in the more expensive versions.
• Ventilation deflectors on the central consoles are positioned beneath these screens.
• The multimedia systems recognize voice commands and are operated using sensors.
• With the increased dimensional characteristics of the vehicles, the interior spaces have expanded. The vehicles now accommodate five passengers.
• Additional legroom of 2.7 cm has been added for rear passengers due to the widened wheelbases. However, initial reviews mention a cramped feel in the backseat area, as passengers may find themselves lacking personal space.
• The front features a sporty design with ergonomic seats that are comfortable, equipped with armrests and various adjustments. Depending on the selected package, different interior trims are available, offering several options.
• The coupe-like body shapes have not hindered the expansion of cargo compartments to 525 liters. Folding the rear seats provides an additional 1430 liters of space.

Standard configurations include electrically operated luggage compartment covers. The trunks feature 12V sockets, USB ports, and provisions for securing bulky items with built-in fasteners. Additionally, cargo cameras can be utilized.

Engines of the BMW X4 G02

When the BMW X4 G02 crossovers initially hit the market, they were equipped with three petrol engines.

• The iDrive 20i models housed four-cylinder engines with 184 hp, 2.0 liters. These engines accelerated in 8.3 seconds with a top speed of 215 km/h. Turbocharged engines with direct fuel injection systems, 16-valve timing, and phase tuning for gas distribution are featured.
• In the iDrive 30i variants, similar engines are present, but with more potent characteristics. Delivering 252 horsepower, these engines accelerate in 6.3 seconds to 100 km/h. For local markets, the engines were modified to produce 249 hp with a top speed of 240 km/h on petrol setups.
• There are also performance-oriented M Performance versions, such as the X4 M40i, equipped with top-tier 3.0-liter petrol engines. These inline-six engines boast 360 horsepower, a maximum speed of 250 km/h, and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. These vehicles feature twin turbochargers, 24-valve timing systems with direct fuel injection, and variable camshaft timing functions.
• The base diesel engines include the xDrive20d versions. These models feature 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engines producing 190 hp. Accelerating in 8 seconds with a maximum speed of 213 km/h, these engines are equipped with 16-valve timing and accumulator fuel injections.
• The xDrive25d variants offer the same engine capacities but deliver 231 hp. With acceleration in 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 230 km/h.
• The xDrive30d models come with 265 hp engines on 3.0 liters. These vehicles accelerate in 5.8 seconds with a maximum speed of 240 km/h.
• At the top end are the X4 M40d vehicles, equipped with 3.0-liter diesel engines. These vehicles accelerate in 4.9 seconds to reach a top speed of 250 km/h.

Petrol engines consume 7.8 — 9.2 liters, while diesel engines require approximately 5.4 liters.

Important! BMW crossovers require synthetic oil ranging from 4.8 to 6.5 liters, depending on the engine.

Oil changes are recommended after 15,000 km or once a year.

Technological Aspect

• The BMW X4 G02 engines work in conjunction with eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmissions.
• The crossovers are all-wheel-drive xDrive.
• The vehicles feature multi-plate clutches with torque on the front axles.
• In normal modes, the traction is distributed 40/60, with the larger share going to the rear axles.
• In case of slippage, these values are adjusted to stabilize movement.

The M Sport packages feature: LED optical systems, full electric packages, ambient lighting, ventilated and heated seats, and cruise control.

Optionally, projection monitors and key fobs with Key displays can be acquired.

These vehicles also include chromed exhausts, LED fog lights, and keys with company logos for owners.
