I became a happy owner of a «beemer» about 3 years ago. The car itself is from the 2007 production year. Buying something newer seemed like a waste of money, but I had been dreaming of a crossover from the Bavarian concern for a long time. My review of the BMW X5 E70 is generally positive.
I don't consider any other brands for the future at all. I have no desire to switch to Nissans or Toyotas.
Let's start with the positives. They are numerous:
- Aggressive sporty design. The car stands out both on the highway and in urban environments.
- Perfectly comfortable and high-quality interior. Over 3 years, I have taken a couple of long-distance trips. My back never got tired. The seat upholstery is excellent. The leather is resistant to dirt and scratches.
- The trunk space is more than enough. Once we went to the sea with the family. All the items fit in without any problems, and there was still some room left.
- Excellent dynamics. The car accelerates very briskly from a standstill. Overtaking is a breeze.
- Driving comfort. The car is responsive, reacts almost perfectly to steering wheel turns. In addition to the comfort, you can add minimum blind spots, sensors (for light, rain, etc.), seat heating, electric seat adjustment with memory function, a multifunction steering wheel, good climate control. Bonus — no body roll while driving. In terms of handling, the crossover can outperform any sedan.
In the review of the BMW X5 E70, I cannot fail to mention some drawbacks. They are minor, but still disappointing.
Weak servo drive in the transfer case. The reason is a plastic gear for torque distribution between the axles. I had to look for a service with a 3D printer for repairs. They printed the part without any problems, but there was still some residue.
I also do not recommend revving up frequently. The drive shafts jam.
Expensive repairs. Once, out of foolishness, I installed 20-inch rims. I drove for a year — everything seemed fine. Then the suspension started to fail. The silent blocks of the N-shaped levers fell apart within 12 months. The repair cost me 90,000 rubles. Later, I removed the wheels and put on smaller rims.
Overall, I am satisfied with the car. If you are aware of the nuances and regularly visit maintenance, there should be no problems. Otherwise, you may have to shell out a hefty sum.
Review of BMW X5 E70: 170,000 km Without Issues
I bought the car with a mileage of 35,000 km. The car was brought from Germany, and the condition was almost perfect. Over 3.5 years, I drove 170,000 km in Moscow and the surrounding area, so my review of the BMW X5 E70 is quite objective. Overall, my opinion about the car is positive. The «beemer» never let me down.
However, I had to sell it. The reason was money. After 200,000 km, the car required expensive maintenance. The price was 290,000 rubles. Moreover, I was quoted this amount at a regular service station, not a dealership. The approximate prices at official dealerships are 1.5-2.5 times higher.
Overall, I am happy with the car, like an elephant. I can list the following positives:
- safety (encountered complex road situations several times, the crossover always performed excellently);
- driving quality (245 horsepower under the hood is more than enough, the car accelerates like a beast);
- low fuel consumption (diesel engine, average consumption in mixed cycle 10.5 liters);
- comfort (once drove from Moscow to Krasnodar, 13 hours without stops, no fatigue at all).
The car is excellent. Arguing against that is simply pointless. In the review of the BMW X5 E70, I want to highlight another point. The car requires money. If you don't have it, it's better not to get the car.
BMW X5 E70, a Reliable Daily Driver
I bought the car second-hand. To be honest, I found it miraculously. There was a lot of junk on the market (resellers with «non-accident, non-painted,» some shady owners, completely worn out interior).
I settled on one option:
- 3 owners before me;
- 165,000 km mileage;
- diesel engine.
First and foremost, the fuel consumption pleased me. It was around 10-11 liters in the city. On the highway, it burned no more than 8. After about one and a half years of driving, I did some minor repair works:
- Replaced engine mounts (35,000 km).
- Installed a new battery (25,000 km).
- Overhauled the calipers and brake discs (40,000 km).
After some time, I had to install a non-original generator. The part cost me 30,000 rubles. In the review of the BMW X5 E70, I want to emphasize that there were no other significant investments. I changed the oil and consumables. I didn't have to pay for anything else.
Overall, in 4 years, I had no complaints about the car. It is a reliable vehicle — just hop in and go. There were no major expenses at all. I sold it because I wanted to ride a sedan. If I didn't have that desire, I would still be driving it.
