About the Model

The Bavarian BMW group rightfully holds leading positions in the global automotive market. In terms of sales, the company noticeably lags behind Nissan or Toyota. But it excels in other aspects.

For many drivers, cars of this brand have become synonymous with reliability, executive luxury, and elegance. Even used cars of this brand are in demand among drivers. Many models of the BMW group have become true legends. The owners' reviews of the BMW E39 only confirm this opinion.

BMW E39 Still Relevant Today

The car is from the 1999 production year. It's already an «old lady.» I bought the car in 2015, after 4 or 5 owners. I can say only one thing: at the time of its release, the Bavarian car set the standard for its class. The car has not lost its relevance even in 2020. The basic equipment is there, but the company didn't skimp on the «filling»:

  • power windows;
  • onboard computer, conveniently placed on the console;
  • climate control.

As an owner, in a review of the BMW E39, I cannot but mention the spacious interior. 3 people can comfortably fit on the rear seat. There's enough room for everyone. No issues arise in this case.

Much has been said about the dynamics, reliability in handling, and the quality of response to steering commands. I won't repeat that. I've identified completely different advantages for myself. Firstly, I want to highlight the perfect soundproofing. The level of noise in the cabin is minimal. Even premium modern Japanese cars might feel insecure in comparison.

Another important plus is the absence of corrosion. The car is already 21 years old, and I live in Surgut. Those who know will understand, and for the uninformed, I'll explain. In winter, our roads are sprinkled with some devilish chemicals. The reagents fight ice superbly. Even more effectively, they destroy shoes and cars. After 5-6 years of use, the bottom can rot to zero.

The «Beamer» has withstood 21 years in such conditions. As an owner, in a review of the BMW E39, I want to warn about one important point. There is a lot of junk on the market. So before buying, it's advisable to inspect the car from all sides. I recommend checking the reliability of the paintwork and the body geometry.

Owner's Review of BMW E39: Luxury in Every Detail

I bought the car second-hand in 2009. At that time, the car was 9 years old and had covered 220,000 km. Initially, I thought it was worn out. I was wrong. I went for a diagnostic check with the seller, and we checked the «vitality» of the parts. The service estimated repairs at around 40,000 rubles:

  1. Replacement of brake pads all around.
  2. Replacement of the ventilation valve.
  3. Replacement of the front hub.

Plus some minor things. As an owner, in a review of the BMW E39, I want to note the somewhat high cost of maintenance. The issue is not just about the price of repairs and parts. The matter goes much deeper. My car has the M52TU engine. It's a 2-liter engine, delivering 150 horsepower.

I have to spend on insurance, tax, and fuel. The car consumes an average of 12-13 liters in the city. And I try to drive carefully. I don't like to push hard, and I don't see the point in it.

Now about the car itself. The car is magnificent. On the highway, not a single problem has ever arisen. It accelerates briskly for overtaking and holds the road perfectly. Steering is effortless.

Inside, there's a pleasant luxury. The design is a bit outdated compared to my «old lady's» modern competitors. However, in terms of material quality, it outperforms many mid-range and higher-class Japanese cars. It's not even worth comparing it to AvtoVAZ.

As an owner, in a review of the BMW E39, I can also note the comfort. For me, it manifests in 2 aspects:

  • seat comfort;
  • quality sound insulation.

I often have to travel around the region. I have never had any problems on the road. Even after 500 km, I feel rested and full of energy.

The sound insulation is perfect. There have been no issues whatsoever.

Owner's Review of BMW E39: If You're Ready to Pay – Go for It

I bought the car in 2007. At that time, it was 10 years old. I drove it for about 5 years. So, I can draw some conclusions. The car itself is not perfect, but it's definitely worth the money. The dynamics are impressive. I can mention as an advantage:

  • lively 2-liter engine with 150 hp;
  • five-speed manual transmission.

The car responds quickly to the accelerator. A slight press on the pedal, and off you go on the highway. This is a significant plus. The gear shifting is quick, no sluggish automatics.

Owners in reviews of the BMW E39 praise its almost perfect handling. I share the same opinion. The response to steering commands is immediate. It starts turning very responsively.

Now about the downsides. There is only one but significant drawback – money. The car cost me 550,000 rubles. At that time, it was almost the best offer. In 5 years, I had to replace the suspension once. That's all.

Back in those days, I paid a decent sum. The problem now lies elsewhere. The E39 ceased production in 2000. The newest one is 20 years old. Can you imagine how it will deteriorate and how much you'll have to invest?

In general, as an owner in a review of the BMW E39, I want to emphasize one thing. This car was relevant for 10-15 years after production ended. I wouldn't recommend buying it now. The Beamer still looks stylish, powerful, and runs briskly. But if it starts falling apart: write it off.
