About the Model

BMW is considered one of the leaders in the global automotive industry. The company's cars are in demand due to their unparalleled design, elegant interior, and excellent dynamic characteristics. The brand is expensive. These cars come with a hefty price tag.

However, for their money, the driver will get one of the best solutions on the market. This statement applies to all brand models. Reviews of the BMW Z4 only confirm this opinion. The roadster is popular among connoisseurs of luxury, comfort, and driving pleasure.

BMW Z4 Review — A Car for Connoisseurs

Describing the BMW Z4 model as just a car is impossible. It's a dream. A luxurious, elegant car with a bold engine and aggressive exterior. The design is incredible. I owned this model for over 2 years, during which time it gathered thousands of admiring glances on the road. However, focusing solely on the exterior in a review of the BMW Z4 is not enough.

Let's first address the technical aspects. The car is rare, so I had only 2 options during my search. I opted for the more powerful one:

  • Engine capacity of 3 liters;
  • 231 horsepower;
  • Sequential gearbox, can be shifted via the lever and paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

The final mileage of the model was around 70,000 km. In my BMW Z4 review, I want to highlight the unique gearbox first and foremost. SMG is lighter compared to an automatic transmission and consumes less engine power. The result is fuel savings. It feels faster and more precise than a regular automatic. My figures were as follows:

  1. City fuel consumption 10-12 liters per 100 km.
  2. Highway fuel consumption 7-7.5 liters per 100 km.

All this for a 3-liter engine with 231 hp. Among the advantages, I can mention the abundance of electronics. The BMW Z4 is literally packed with various sensors: rain, light, climate, dynamic stability control, power-folding roof, various additional settings.

Now let's talk about concerns. Honestly, I had doubts for a long time before the purchase. The most common fears were:

  1. Only two seats in the cabin. Driver and passenger.
  2. Low ground clearance.
  3. Fabric roof.

Starting with the first point. I live alone and bought the car for myself. I wasn't planning on carrying anyone special, so this fear was quickly dispelled during the selection process.

I had to pay a little more attention to the low ground clearance. I hesitated for a while, but on the night before the purchase, I decided: come what may. I didn't regret it. In my BMW Z4 review, I want to note that I never hit the bottom anywhere in the city. Our roads are decent. The myth about bad Russian roads is far from reality.

The fabric roof handled temperatures down to -10 without any issues. Winter temperatures in our region never go lower. There were no leaks anywhere, and I drove absolutely worry-free.

BMW Z4 Review: Perfect for Pleasure

In my BMW Z4 review, I want to emphasize one crucial point. The car is perfect for pleasure. It's better to look for something else for daily use. My 2009 Beemer. I bought it in winter 2014. The mileage at that time was only 30,000 km. It surprised me quite a bit back then. Over the next year, I added 2,000 km myself and realized that the previous owners drove it hard.

In general, I don't see the point in driving with the roof closed on a roadster. So, I only use it in good weather (sunny and around +18 degrees). Hence, the low mileage.

Starting in my BMW Z4 review with the handling qualities. The feeling is actually mixed:

  1. The car looks sporty, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration in 5.3 seconds on paper, but in personal experience, the roadster accelerates slightly slower than other models in the same class.
  2. The stiffness is high. The car responds perfectly, but constantly maneuvering in the city is simply inconvenient. You get tired very quickly.
  3. Driving on city streets and in traffic is really annoying. You want to floor it, but you can't.
  4. It's better to wear some kind of headgear while driving. Otherwise, dust will be all over your head and hair.

In my BMW Z4 review, I can't help but mention the relative reliability. I understand that I drive rarely, don't use the car in harsh conditions, but overall, I haven't had any serious issues during my ownership.

There were some challenges:

  • Engine revving issues, solved by replacing spark plugs, cost 19,000 rubles;
  • Lack of revs addressed by cleaning the injectors for 9,000 rubles.

These minor issues didn't spoil my impressions of the car. I am completely satisfied with the car and have no intention of changing it for anything else.

BMW Z4 — For Emotions

I bought the Z4 in 2016. Over the years, I've driven 21,000 km. Around 4,000 km per year. The engine delivers 218 horsepower with a 2.5-liter capacity. In my BMW Z4 review, I can highlight the following pros:

  1. Relatively low tax.
  2. No excessive oil consumption.
  3. Attractive fuel consumption.
  4. Great handling and dynamics.
  5. Loads of positive emotions.

The car is fantastic. I consider the Z4 the best choice for summer. I don't drive it in winter to avoid unnecessary wear. The handling somewhat resembles karting.

I haven't identified many drawbacks for myself. I try to change the oil and undergo maintenance every 5,000 km. There have been minor repairs, but nothing major has happened. The second drawback is the stiff suspension. But that's a given. The car is sporty, there's simply no other option.
