The French auto show in 2014 presented the public with the new BMW 2 F23 convertibles. The October premiere led to sales in 2015.
Exterior
Silhouettes of elongated shapes. The BMW 2 F23 convertibles feature dynamic contours, with headlights that converge towards the radiator grilles.
- Sloping hoods.
- Extended wheelbases.
- Aerodynamic shortened overhangs.
- Wide tracks.
- Wide rear sections with L-shaped taillights. The rear end has low centers of gravity, paired with chrome exhaust system pipes.
- Soft roofs, with additional thermal and sound-insulating materials. Thanks to the electric drives, they fold/unfold in 20 seconds, at a speed of 50 km/h. Optionally, you can use Comfort Access to operate these actions remotely. The roofs come in three color options. The base BMW 2 F23 cars come with black color. Optionally — with brown or silver.
- Two variants of 16-inch wheels. Two variants of 17-inch wheels. One on 18 inches.
- Compared to the previous generation, the cars have grown in length/width by 7.2/2.6 cm. Wheelbases by 3 cm.
Roofs
The soft roofs have additional materials for insulation against external noises and cold. They fold in 20 seconds at 50 km/h.
Variations of alloy wheels
It all depends on the car configurations. Wheels are offered in 16, 17, and 18-inch sizes.
Optics of BMW 2 F23
It comes with various adaptive mechanisms in the front. Including movable headlights. Therefore, the lighting angles depend on the direction of the steering wheel.
Interior Space
- The interiors have become more spacious. With open roofs by 30 liters, and closed by 20 liters. The trunk volumes also amount to 335 and 280 liters. All parameters are related to the roof positions.
- Decorative trims can be ordered in 6 variants, and upholstery in 5.
- All materials are multi-layered and elegant.
- Sport seats are offered optionally.
- The interior upholstery is made of leather with SunReflective technology, allowing the cabins not to heat up in sunny weather.
- Side panels with rear speakers.
- Additionally, the cars are equipped with: air conditioners, electric drives for side mirrors and windows, seat heaters, steering wheel amplifiers with adjustable tilt and reach.
Electronic Equipment
The BMW 2 F23 is packed with electronics.
Thanks to these devices, the cars are comfortable to drive and safer in unforeseen situations:
- Anti-lock braking systems ABS. During braking, the wheels are unlocked.
- Electronic DSC monitors the behavior and stability of the cars. They prevent vehicle rollovers, skidding, by braking. Information is provided by various sensors, but mainly 4 devices that are responsible for the angular speeds of the wheels.
- DTC mechanisms help cars in challenging situations, in case of skidding or slippage threats. Cars with such systems feel confident during starts, ascents/descents.
Important! Do not turn off these mechanisms on slippery roads, otherwise, you will have to manually control the car to avoid skidding.
- To reduce braking distances and stabilize the cars during emergency braking or cornering, DBS and CBC help, along with anti-lock systems ASC, which prevent the driving wheels from spinning when the cars start moving.
- Electric power steering with Servotronic functions. Efforts are created on the steering wheels, based on the convertible speeds. To control the dynamics of movements, the cars are equipped with DTC systems. Thanks to dynamic control, increased wheel spin of the driving wheels of the cars is allowed.
- Weather changes along with complex road conditions remain unnoticed by convertibles with BMW xDrive. Intelligent mechanisms in cars quickly adapt to situations. There is a redistribution of torque. Cars with good handling take positions of optimal stability, maximum road grip.
- Transmission shift indicators provide drivers with information on the speed at which optimal fuel economy can be achieved.
Engines of BMW 2 F23
In 2015, three petrol and one diesel modifications were purchased.
The petrol convertibles 220i came with two-liter B48 engines. The power was 184 hp. Acceleration — 7.5 sec. With a top speed of 231 km/h. Fuel consumption ranges from 4.9 to 8 liters.
The BMW 228i with two-liter N20 engines, 245 hp. With acceleration in 6.0 sec. A top speed of 250 km/h. Fuel consumption — 5.3 — 9.1 liters.
The most powerful convertibles are the M235i. They have three-liter N55 engines, with 326 horsepower. They accelerate in 5 seconds — 250 km/h. Fuel consumption ranges from 6.2 to 11.5 liters.
Economical cars 220d with two-liter units, with 190 hp. Acceleration 7.4 sec — 225 km/h. Consumption — from 3.7 to 5.8 liters.
230i and M240i were introduced in 2016. The technological aspect of the first cars was higher than the 228i. The latter cars turned out to be the most powerful.
The base cars work with six-speed manual transmissions. Optionally with 8-speed Steptronic automatics.
Configurations of BMW 2 F23
For good handling and mode switching, BMW 2 F23 comes equipped with EfficientDynamics. And Auto Start Stop function, mechanisms that help stop/start engines with automatic/mechanical transmissions. This results in fuel savings, especially at traffic lights.
Important! Press the button, brake pedal, for the car to stall. When the light turns green, remove your feet from the pedals, the engines start in the car and drive on. Thanks to Eco Pro devices, less fuel is consumed.
By turning off mirror and seat heaters, up to 37.5 degrees, less air is cooled/heated.
Also important here is the presence of:
Navigation devices, Drive Assistant, etc.
In base cars:
- Leg and head safety airbags.
- Three-point seat belts.
- Tire pressure indicators.
You can additionally purchase kits: Sport Line, Luxury Line, M Sport Package.
Facelift and pre-facelift convertibles
In fact, there was no facelift. The cars just started to be produced with new equipment and changes in exteriors and interiors. Base cars come with LEDs, optionally — with circular headlights.
The radiator grilles were enlarged, and new shades appeared. There are now 3 of them. The interiors were equipped with instrument panels, smartphone chargers, iDrive controllers.
