Review of BMW 520

Greetings to all! I have long wanted to write a review about my beloved German car BMW, but something always prevented me. I have been eyeing this car for quite a while, as it often happens with many people, one day the desire for a German-made car arose.

I can say that I am not a picky person and was quite satisfied with cars made in Japan and Korea. It was just time to switch to a «premium» class car to enjoy comfort and excellent interior design.

This story begins in 2014 when I rented this car during a trip to Austria. I was pleased with both its exterior and interior design. The trip left me with a firm belief that I would become the owner of such a car. However, it took me two years to fulfill my dream.

After leaving the showroom in high spirits, I was faced with a manufacturing defect that brought me back to reality. The car started producing strange noises resembling a whistle. Surprisingly, the official dealer remained unperturbed, stating that it was just a peculiarity of the model. It was easily fixed with a simple «nostril» seal.

Without going into much detail, I want to summarize the expenses. Over 2.5 years, I spent around 120,000 rubles on maintaining the car. The main expenses were related to regular maintenance, along with two minor warranty repairs. Quite a lot for a new car purchased with confidence in its reliability.

I would like to mention a few words about the diesel engine. It has a distinctive sound, but only when accelerating. There is no need to worry that it will annoy everyone in the car throughout the journey, as it is not the case in reality.

Among the positive aspects are:

  • Driver's seat ergonomics;
  • Handling and brake system performance;
  • Suspension;
  • Build quality;
  • Transmission;
  • Sound quality in the standard audio system;
  • Fuel consumption level;
  • Quick heating and cooling of the body when activating the air conditioning system.

Despite the fact that the car turned out to be not as flawless as initially thought during operation, I am very pleased with it. Any actions related to it bring joy. Owning such a car requires a certain amount of money, but it is worth it. Let's see if this opinion changes after the warranty period ends.

Review of BMW 520d F10

It has been over a year since I have been driving the 520d F10 with a manual transmission and a 190 hp engine. During this time, I have come to appreciate the advantages of this model. It takes 7 seconds for the car to accelerate to 100 km/h on the highway.

When driving on snowy or off-road roads, the all-wheel drive system comes in handy. If the road surface is uneven, the driver will need to constantly adjust the steering, as the suspension reacts very sensitively to the road. The cruise control system or speed limit is helpful when merging onto the highway.

The interior is spacious enough for a sedan, accommodating anywhere from 3 to 6 people. Quality soft plastic, metal, and leather are used for its finishing. The layout of the instruments on the dashboard is convenient, with readings visible regardless of the lighting conditions.

The driver's seat offers a good view, with the large hood end clearly visible. The car is well-prepared for winter use, featuring a heated steering wheel and front seats.

Despite the trunk not being very spacious, it can fit several shopping bags or a backpack with fishing gear.

The noise insulation level is good, but some extraneous sounds are noticeable when the heater is running. Fuel consumption in city driving is around 10 liters, not exceeding 9 liters on the highway with an aggressive driving style.

Based on my experience with this brand's cars (this is not our family's first BMW), I can say that in case of any rattling or other extraneous sounds in the car, it is advisable to contact an authorized dealer or a trusted service center. Otherwise, there is a high risk of being charged much more than the actual repair cost.

I haven't had any issues with malfunctions yet, I handle the car carefully, and it is still under warranty. The first maintenance inspection involved checking the engine and chassis, while the second one included brake fluid replacement.

Over time, the car will require certain expenses, so one should be financially prepared for that. The main positive aspects I can point out are the interior design and the driving quality of the car, while the negative aspect is the fuel consumption level.
